Journal Entry ,Day 9,Monday June 7,1976 Waterbury,Ct.
16 miles
Today we are traveling 16 mi to Waterbury ,Ct. Our lunch stop is at the farm of Mr.&Mrs. John Carlson
Just about 1 mi from our " Camp"stop in Waterbury there was a bridge we all had to cross that was mostly steel grating wit large openings that you could see thru ,and it also being steel started to ring as the metal horseshoes hit it. Many of the horses did not want to travel over this "Monster" !! We had no problem and were one of the first to go over it. Our horses were shod with "Flex-Step" horse shoes that were made from a plastic polymer with steel specks embedded in them. Lee thought they would be good for long distance travel. It proved to be a very good decision . Not only did they wear well, they also had the unexpected bonus of being quite on bridge grates and they also had better grab on some roads where the borium shoes were slipping.

"Right now it is 7 pm-
Pat LeClerc ( RI Outrider) just arriving through the gate at Hamilton Park at which we
arrived at 4 pm after crossing the steel grate bridge at the top of the
street.
We spent a half hour after we
came looking for a cheeseburger with onions for Lee."
When we stated off this morn it was all down
hill. At the first stop a lady came with
warm brownies for Gary.
At Cheshire
they had a ceremony and gave us a proclamation.
At the button factory they gave us some buttons (Ball & Socket Mfg
Co Inc.)

Not sure what happened but one of the Connecticut horses got cut on the leg today.

After dinner Lee
was shoeing Breezy with an
audience and a local reporter came by. He was fascinated by the shoeing
process and took some great pictures. The next day he brought us a
couple.
