Journal Entry, Saturday, June 5,1976...21 mi (??)
to Hubbard Park, Meriden ,Ct.
We left at 8:10 this morning from "Belltown" and we are headed to "Silver City" !!
Connecticut Wagon with "4up"
Last night a reporter from the Middletown paper slept under the wagon with Tom . He wanted to get a feel for "Wagon Train Life ". I offered him my breakfast from the cook bus which was Chipped Beef over grits something I would not have eaten . He loved it !!
Bob's daughter and her friend rode with us in the wagon till lunch which was in Middletown , we were fed a boxed lunch in the park.
We went across a big bridge today , our first big bridge!! It was the bridge over the Connecticut River into Middletown.
This afternoon I drove the team into Meriden. The route was through Wesleyan University today. It seemed more tan 21 mi today. Even though that's what they said it was.
Elmer {Ct. Wagonmaster) gave us a silver spoon from the "Silver City" and some Ct. badges. At about 5pm we drove into Hubbard Park--- a very nice park--- but--not for horses !
Tom's aunt and uncle came tonight with some food. We were also viseted by the Meehans from West Greenwich ( the very nice people who own the Robin's Nest Restaurant,Coventry)
